ISS Education

Space, made tangible. A multilingual learning platform combines live ISS tracking, an interactive Earth view and approachable explanations of life in orbit.

Web design & ISS Tracker development

ISS Education

The task

Make the International Space Station easier to explore: where it is, how it moves and what happens on board. The site combines a live tracker with learning material in English, German and Danish.

What I created

I designed the interface and developed the tracker, data integration and visualisation. The page brings position, altitude, speed and the recent path together on an interactive globe, with visible timestamps and source information.

The implementation

Live telemetry comes from Where the ISS at? through a server endpoint and refreshes about every ten seconds. The orbit preview is calculated separately from orbital elements using SGP4. NASA provides imagery, station facts and news; the data page explains sources, fallback behaviour and the difference between live measurements and predictions.

A closer look

  1. Receive live data

The server retrieves position and telemetry from Where the ISS at? The interface shows when the data was last updated.

  2. Calculate the preview

Orbital elements (TLE) and SGP4 produce an estimated path for the next 90 minutes, separate from the measured position.

  3. Make movement visible

The globe combines the position, recent trail and predicted path. Telemetry and source notes help explain what is being shown.
